Job Specification:

Reporting to the Head of Compliance manager the Governance & Quality Executive will support the design and implementation of appropriate oversight and governance in respect of the Underwriting function. You’ll work with the leadership team to ensure the underwriting team deliver to a consistently high standard in terms of service, technical underwriting and compliance. Supporting wider business objectives you’ll also work alongside our network of approved brokers to monitor compliance with both technical standards and compliance requirements, role modelling company values in all communications.


Key areas of responsibilities include:


  • Implement internal quality checks, audits and reports to assess performance and identify areas for both technical and operational improvement:
    • Identify training requirements
    • Identify potential compliance enhancements
    • Identify potential inefficiencies.


  • Support the design and implementation of effective oversight of our network of approved brokers in accordance with defined underwriting strategy, technical standards and compliance requirements – daily risk reviews, desktop audits and broker audits.


  • Build strong relationships with our network of brokers to help balance effective business relationships that support growth opportunities, whilst ensuring adherence to technical and broking standards and compliance requirements.


  • Contribute to the development and timely delivery of Operational, Quality and Technical Management Information and analysis.


  • In conjunction with Underwriting managers/teams agree higher risk areas and assess existing controls and identify any control gaps.


  • Work with Underwriting Managers to agree and design effective Quality assurance reviews, ensure that each review has a clear methodology and that results are reviewed and analysed with the relevant managers.


  • Ensuring a clear audit trail of the work performed from agreeing review parameters to management sign off and completion of recommendations/action items agreed to improve performance.


  • Complete own control testing/quality assurance review schedule to timelines ensuring quality and attention to audit trail are maintained and ensuring individual review reports are sufficiently detailed to facilitates qualitative review


  • Work alongside the Footprint Claims team expediently verifying key documents to facilitate progression of claims.


  • Support the Underwriting and Head of Compliance in the coordination of external audits.


  • Any other activities as may be required from time to time.

  • Excel knowledge.
  • Possess the ability to build working relationships within team units and with other internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse the benefits of control activity and QA results and identify the impact and root cause of control weaknesses.
  • Possess an understanding of the risk and control environment within which companies within the financial services industry work.
  • Previous experience of working in a risk control role in the Insurance industry and an understanding of the importance of effective, efficient controls including quality assurance.
