Differential Pricing Update – 11 March 2021

Thu Mar 11 2021

Dear Member,

The Insurance (Restriction on Differential Pricing and Profiling) Bill 2020 was debated by the Dail on 17 February 2021. The Bill will be back before the Dail in mid-November 2021. If the Bill is allowed to proceed, the next stage is the Committee stage, at which point interested stakeholders will have an opportunity to provide input. Brokers Ireland is monitoring developments in this area very closely, having met twice with Deputy Doherty and having written three times to the CBI’s Director of Consumer Protection Directorate.

This issue is at the top of our agenda and we are doing our utmost to ensure that Insurance Broker problems with differential pricing between Broker and direct channel are understood and addressed by those in a position to influence change. We consider it to be unacceptable that Broker channel customers are treated differently from direct channel customers and have advised the CBI of this.

Regards

Cathie Shannon

Director of General Insurance
