Retail Investment Strategy Update

Tue May 14 2024

On the 20th of March, the European Parliament ECON (Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs) committee voted to approve Rapporteur Stephanie Yon-Curtin’s report on the Retail Investment Strategy (RIS). Most of the ECON MEPs (32 in favour, 21 against, 1 abstention) expressed their position against an overall ban on “inducements”/commissions.

At the European Parliaments Plenary meeting on the 23rd of April, it was voted in favour of the ECON Committee report on the RIS meaning that from Parliament side, the position for starting trilogue negotiations with Commission and Council is established.  The Council is trying to find a compromise on the totality of the RIS proposals before the end of the Belgian Presidency( end of June). Trilogue can only start once the Council has also adopted its position.
