EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
Wed Feb 28 2018

The EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2017. These regulations replace previous Data Protection legislation. The scope of this regulation applies to all organisations throughout Europe that hold personal data regardless of size and sector. The regulations apply both to the personal data of your customers and your employees. To assist you in understanding and applying the many provisions of GDPR, Brokers Ireland has arranged for the issue of guidance documents for use in your business. Please find attached
These documents will provide Brokers Ireland members with relevant information and practical guidance on the key provisions of GDPR. As the Data Protection Bill 2018 has not yet been passed, the guidance is based on draft legislation and the regulatory guidance that is available at this time. It will be necessary to update the guidance, extend the FAQs and provide additional templates over time, to reflect new developments.Brokers Ireland commissioned Frontier Privacy, a data protection consultancy. to draft the Guidance FAQ’s and Templates and we are grateful to them for working with us to provide the documents in a straightforward, easy to read format to assist members in becoming conversant with the vast amount of information relevant to the operation of an intermediary business.
We are planning three countrywide presentations in April to further assist you in reviewing the manner in which your firm processes personal data. In the interim it is important that you familiarise yourself with the guidance provided to ensure your business is compliant with the new requirements by 25 May 2018.
Brokers Ireland wish you well in your endeavours to implement the requirements of GDPR and of course will continue to provide ongoing support and regular updates to address new and evolving issues.
