Consumer Insurance Contracts Act- What you Need to Know

On 17 July 2020, the Minister for Finance announced the commencement date(s) for the Consumer Insurance Contracts Act 2019. The bulk of the provisions of the Act will come into effect on 1 September 2020. The commencing of the majority of its provisions, will amongst other things, place an onus on insurers to handle claims promptly and fairly, and reform other aspects of insurance law such as the practice of warranties and replacing the principle of insurable interest. Brokers Ireland podcast outlines these relevant changes to members. The Act applies to life and general insurance contracts entered into, and any changes made to those contracts, from 1 September 2020.
