Although fully enacted, the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity)2015 Act is largely not yet operational – it is due to commence in mid-2022.  This Act fundamentally changes how we interact with and support adults who have difficulties with their decision-making capacity.

Áine Flynn, Director of the Decision Support Service will provide a presentation covering the following from 1200-1300 hrs on Tuesday 31st May 2022:

  • The key reforms which the Act will bring;
  • Guiding Principles;
  • Functional assessment of capacity;
  • Details of the categories of decisions (Property and Affairs; Personal Welfare);
  • Framework of “decision supporters”;
  • Advance Planning;
  • Functions of the DSS (including registers, arrangements, investigation of complaints etc);
  • Codes of Practice & public consultation – update;
  • Update on publication of amending Bill.
